Critical Alignment Therapy

About the Class:

Critical Alignment Therapy (CAT) is used to reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort in the body.

It is a practice with roots in yoga and an excellent tool for anyone who experiences chronic pain in the hips, shoulders and/or backIt helps to break through movement restrictions and restore mobility by bringing balance back to the skeleton. It is an excellent tool for anyone who experiences chronic pain in the hips, shoulders and/or back, and is looking for lasting relief.

By focusing on the skeleton, we can develop alignment at the deepest level, breaking down tightness in postural muscles and the myofascial line, allowing for free and easier movement. Through this process we also become better able to support our movements; initially with concentrated effort and focus, and over time habitually. This supports ongoing, pain-free living with the know-how to quickly resolve any pains that may develop or redevelop over time.

The Benefits of Critical Alignment Therapy (CAT) can be:

  • Improved mobility
  • Increased ease of movement
  • Better breathing techniques
  • Develop movement coordination to maintain mobility and pain-free movement
  • Develop the strength to support positive movement patterns
  • Experience a better nights sleep

What is Critical Alignment Therapy?

With the use of specialized props, CAT looks to reduce the conditioning of the body through repetitive actions. Actions enjoyed with your favourite activities, your work and your day to day life.  We bring the body back to a neutral state, eliminating or reducing pain, and immobility; while simultaneously developing a better awareness of the body.

What is the body up to when we move? What has the body been up to that has allowed this pain to develop and fester over time?  And most importantly what will it take to eliminate this pain and Strength and coordination are improved.

By focusing on the skeleton, we develop alignment at the deepest level, breaking down tightness in postural muscles and the myofascial line, allowing for free and easier movement. Through this process we also become better able to support our movements; initially with concentrated effort and focus, and over time habitually. This supports ongoing, pain-free living with the know-how to quickly resolve any pains that may develop or redevelop over time.

About the Therapist:

Shelley Bishop is a Critical Alignment Therapist, Movement specialist, and yoga instructor.

Initially, she began her passion in wellness by teaching group yoga classes of all styles. While she enjoys the fitness aspect of a challenging yoga class or barre workout, she quickly found herself more passionate about beginner’s yoga and helping people to move better both on and off their mats.

Through this passion, she found Critical Alignment Therapy and began her study of how this method brings together multiple aspects for whole body wellness. After 3 years of training and practice, Shelley became a fully certified Critical Alignment Therapist and has been working with clients in both group and private settings to promote clients wellness goals.
